The idea of creating a men's shirt has been in the works for several years. While it may seem simple from the outside, developing a new style takes time. Creating the right fit, selecting fabrics, choosing colors and prints, and refining every detail is a process that can't be rushed.
One of the biggest decisions was fabric selection. During development, we found our original fabric created a softer look that felt better suited to our women's collection. We ultimately decided to develop the polos using a different material. The chosen fabric offers moisture-wicking technology and UV 50+ protection, making it ideal for life in Hawai‘i, while also providing the structure and appearance we were looking for in a men's shirt.
Fit was another major focus. We wanted a polo that looked and felt great on a variety of body types, which meant plenty of real-world testing. Samples in each size were worn by dads, brothers, uncles, husbands, friends, and more. Each round of feedback helped us refine the fit, making small adjustments until we landed on a style that felt right.
Once colors and prints are selected, the process continues with printed fabric samples that must be reviewed and approved before production can begin. After approval, the fabric is printed in California, shipped to Hawai’i, and then cut and sewn locally by our team.
All of our pieces are created right here in our Kaka’ako studio. At times, you’ll even find founder Lynn personally sewing coconut buttons onto shirts to help keep production moving. It's a hands-on process that reflects the care and attention that goes into every piece we make.
The introduction of our men's polos also opened the door to something we've been excited to expand: family wear. Coordinating styles allow families to celebrate special occasions and enjoy matching prints together without sacrificing comfort or personal style.
Like all of our collections, these pieces are produced in small batches. We intentionally keep quantities limited so we can maintain quality, stay hands-on throughout production, and continue creating thoughtfully made garments close to home.
From the first sketch to the final button, every polo represents years of planning, testing, collaboration, and craftsmanship. We're excited to continue growing our family wear offerings and creating pieces that can be worn and enjoyed together.
